Carolina Test Prep began when the director Carrie Wiggins, researched the efficacy of coaching for the SAT. To operationalize the coaching for the study, she developed both a broad format for the coaching and particular test taking strategies which deconstructed many of the SAT question types. The format and strategies were developed as a result of her experience as an SAT instructor and through her comprehensive research that included an examination of the psychometric properties of the SAT and the learning theory associated with preparing for entrance exams.
All the instructors at Charlotte Test Prep have been trained to teach the problems that show up on the PSAT, SAT and ACT in a systematic way that is unique to our company. The general curriculum that the instructors use is basically the same for each test, and then modified to the specific levels of each of our students.
The six senior instructors Director, Carrie Wiggins, Erin Thomas, Jen Mabe, Mandie Miller, Meryl Switzer, Kim Castro and Jewel Schellenberg MS have collaborated, using their various backgrounds and approaches to create an educational milieu that minimizes some of the pressures generally associated with entrance exams while streamlining the instruction so it effectively pinpoints and addresses students test taking needs.
Erin Thomas, Jen Mabe, Mandie Miller, Meryl Switzer, Kim Castro and Jewel Schellenberg MS were acquired in great part because they share the same pedagogical tenets Ms. Wiggins espouse and because they, as shown over time, care enormously about the progress and well being of their students. Our course is rigorous so it needs to be implemented with a strong and nurturing touch. We look to all our instructors as resources, and it has been exciting to use their prodigious educational backgrounds and experiences to help inform what we do here at Carolina Test Prep.
